Acting Prime Minister of Abkhazia Valery Bganba called on December 9 on Chairman of the Russian Government Mikhail Mishustin to return social payments in the republic. TASS reported on December 9.

"I addressed a letter to Mishustin to unfreeze co-financing of salaries, social payments in general," TASS quoted the acting prime minister of Abkhazia as saying.

Earlier in the day Bganba announced the closure of schools and kindergartens in Abkhazia because of the emergency in the energy sector. It is noted that the measures taken will be in effect for a week.

Acting Finance Minister of the republic Vladimir Delba said on December 6 that Abkhazia has no funds for payment of salaries to employees of budgetary organizations. He noted that if the consolidation of efforts to find funds for the purchase of electricity continues in the republic, then salaries will not be paid either.

Earlier, on December 3, deputies of the Abkhazian parliament voted against ratification of the agreement on investments of Russian legal entities in the republic. In November, Abkhazia's Foreign Ministry told Izvestia about plans to strengthen relations with Russia. The ministry called Russia a strategic ally of the republic.

In September, Russia suspended social payments to teachers, doctors and employees of law enforcement agencies in Abkhazia. Abkhazian Foreign Minister Sergei Shamba added that at bilateral meetings Abkhazia was repeatedly warned about the possible consequences of non-fulfillment of obligations.
