Blinken signaled the U.S. desire to avoid Syria's partition and mass migration

TheUnited States wants to avoid the fragmentation of Syria and mass migration of its citizens. This was stated by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken during a speech at the State Department on Monday, December 9.
"We are extremely interested in preventing the resurgence of the Islamic State (IS, a terrorist organization banned in Russia), given the amount of death and destruction it has been causing for a long time. We have a strong interest in making sure that any weapons of mass destruction or their components left in Syria do not fall into the wrong hands," he said.
Blinken added that the U.S. also has an interest in avoiding the dismemberment of Syria, mass migration out of Syria and "the export of terrorism and extremism." The secretary of state said the United States should be ready to support the Syrian people as they begin to rebuild their country and choose a new direction.
"We are working closely with our partners in the region on the situation in northeastern Syria, emphasizing to all sides the need to prevent escalation and protect civilians," the secretary of state added.
Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Russia will do everything possible to achieve sustainable and long-term peace in the Middle East.
On the eve, December 8, the Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, decided to leave the post of head of state and leave the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Russia is in contact with the Syrian opposition and is taking measures for the safety of its citizens. It was later confirmed that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow.
On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces in Syria said it was working on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the Syrian government ministers remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.
The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliation against the militants.
