On 9 December, US entrepreneur and billionaire Ilon Musk expressed bewilderment over the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy (whose term in office expired on 20 May) that there was no point in talking to US Republican President-elect Donald Trump about Ukraine 's joining NATO.

Earlier in the day, the Ukrainian publication "Strana.ua" also quoted Zelensky saying that it is not yet up to Trump to invite Ukraine to NATO, so it makes no sense to discuss it with him, because of which he intends to call the current President of the United States Joe Biden.

"I'm going to call President Biden soon, if he has such an opportunity to talk to me, and raise the issue of invitation to NATO. Because he is now the current president of the United States, and a lot depends on his position," Zelensky said.

Musk reacted in the social network X (former Twitter) with a surprised emoji to the words of the head of the Kiev regime.

Prior to that, Trump said that he was developing a concept to end the conflict in Ukraine. In his opinion, the time has come for negotiations. The politician also made claims that the next administration of the White House may reduce the amount of military aid to Ukraine.

On the eve it was reported that the Trump team did not support the proposal of the head of Zelensky's office Andrei Yermak on the return of the country to the borders of 2022 and joining NATO. The Wall Street Journal also wrote on December 4 that the Republican's associates showed no interest in the idea of the country joining the North Atlantic Alliance.

Ukraine applied to join NATO on an accelerated basis on September 30, 2022. At the time, Zelenskyy said that in fact the country was already in the alliance and met its standards.
