Expert advises Russians on currency savings

If Russians who have dollars are considering diversification of savings, they can convert part of the dollars into rubles and open a deposit in the national currency - the rates on them in banks from 20 to 25% per annum for terms of up to a year, said Yaroslav Ostrovsky, a specialist in the strategic research department of the TR company. He told Izvestia what else can be done with the US currency.
"If you have savings in cash US dollars and you are thinking about what to do with them, you can consider several options. The first option is to leave it as it is," he noted.
According to him, since the beginning of the year dollar quotes against the ruble have increased by more than 9%. At the same time, according to forecasts, next year inflation may begin to decline smoothly.
"On long time intervals, the dollar-ruble exchange rate can "work off" this inflation," the specialist added.
At the same time, in his opinion, the option of opening a foreign currency deposit in a bank looks doubtful. After the dollar became a toxic currency, banks have made rates on foreign currency deposits unattractive and now they fluctuate in the range of 0.5-3%. At the same time, it will not be possible to get the currency at the end of the term - only in Russian rubles at the rate set by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation on the date of issue, Ostrovsky explained.
"If you consider the option of diversification of savings, you can convert part of the dollars into rubles and open a deposit in rubles - the rates on them in banks are now very attractive, from 20 to 25% per annum for terms up to a year," - added the expert.
In addition, there is a possible option with the purchase of replacement bonds denominated in U.S. dollars, the expert said.
"For their purchase it will be necessary to open a brokerage account, choose the issuer of the bond and give an order to the broker for the purchase. Such bonds can bring 15-20% per annum in currency. If inflation, and after it the key rate of the Central Bank starts to decrease, investments in this type of bonds can bring significantly higher income, provided that they are sold before maturity. Minus - the payment is also in rubles at the exchange rate", - concluded Ostrovsky.
The information in the material is not an investment recommendation.
Earlier, on October 25, the head of the center of brokerage operations of MTS Bank Julia Gorokhova said that you can start investing with 100 rubles. However, one should not invest large sums at once. The optimal attitude to money is to form a portfolio, which is rebalanced depending on the market situation and a person's needs, she specified.
