The Syrian government, which was subordinate to the President of the Republic Bashar al-Assad, is ready to hand over its powers. This was announced by Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi Al-Jalali on December 9.

He said the government was ready to "extend its hand" to the opposition and hand over its functions to a transitional government.

"I am in my house and I have not gone anywhere, and it is because of my affiliation with this country," Al-Jalali was quoted as saying by Fox5 television.

He did not comment on reports that Assad himself had left the country.

Earlier in the day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko said that Russia would do everything possible to achieve sustainable and long-term peace in the Middle East.

On the eve, December 8, the Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, after negotiations with the opposition, decided to leave the post of head of state and leave the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Russia is in contact with the Syrian opposition and is taking measures for the safety of its citizens. It was later confirmed that Assad and his family had arrived in Moscow.

On the same day, the national coalition of revolutionary and opposition forces in Syria said it was working on the formation of a transitional authority. In turn, SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the Syrian government ministers remain in Damascus, and he himself is ready to cooperate with any elected leadership.

The situation in Syria has escalated as a result of a major attack by armed formations in Aleppo and Idlib, which began on November 28 and led to the Syrian army's retaliation against the militants.
