Russia's main Christmas tree was cut down in the Moscow region


On December 9, the main Christmas tree of Russia was cut down near the village of Znamenka in Mozhaisky district, Moscow Region.
It was chosen among 25 trees for almost six months. A special commission traveled more than 3 thousand kilometers through the forests of the Moscow region.
"This is a very big job. It has already become a long-standing tradition, which requires, above all, serious, painstaking preparation both for the search and selection of the main Christmas tree of the country," said Pavel Zubov, deputy head of the main maintenance department of the Presidential Affairs Directorate.
This year's winner is 90 years old. Its height is 30 meters, it is 5 centimeters taller than last year's tree, its trunk diameter is 60 centimeters.
"This is a very serious and complex operation. It was us back in June during patrolling together with the district forestry, with school forestry came across this spruce, examined from all sides", - said the director of the Borodino branch of the State Unitary Enterprise of MO "Mosobelles" Makhach Shirinov.
Sawing the tree was entrusted to forester Maxim, for whom it is already the second Kremlin Christmas tree.
It will be delivered to the Kremlin through the Spasskiye Vorota, after which it will be installed on the Cathedral Square of the Moscow Kremlin.
Earlier, on December 6, it was reported that in the capital on Red Square began work GUM-Katok and fair. The theme of festival decorations this year was gingerbread houses, in each of which guests can buy festive souvenirs and taste traditional New Year's treats. It was specified that at the main skating rink of Russia you can meet New Year's Eve.
