- Media reported on the West's underestimation of Russian Yasen nuclear submarines with Zircones

Western countries continue to underestimate many Russian defense technologies, in particular the nuclear submarines (SSN) of Project 885M Yasen-M armed with hypersonic cruise missiles Zirkon. This was reported by the American magazine The National Interest (TNI) on December 8.
The publication notes that Russia has been improving the Zirkon for years; these missiles are made with the most advanced technologies. In addition, the Yasen-M subs are among the quietest, probably the quietest in the world. The magazine called them "atomic beasts" capable of sailing long distances, avoiding detection, approaching targets and unleashing on them "destruction of almost biblical level."
TNI pointed out that the Zirkon is capable of radical and unpredictable maneuvers to overcome any missile defense (BMD) system. The Yasen-M nuclear submarines, on the other hand, are highly automated and made of a type of steel that creates a weak magnetic field - which is why they are so hard to detect. At the same time, they are equipped with the Irtysh-Amphora spherical hydroacoustic system, which easily detects approaching enemy subs.
The magazine recalled that U.S. submarines do not have hypersonic weapons and the Zirkon gives the Russian army capabilities that the U.S. army has no defense against.
Earlier, on December 6, military expert Drago Bosnich pointed out in an article for InfoBRICS that the collective West is afraid of the multi-purpose capabilities of the Zirkon missile, because it can be launched from a submarine, a surface ship or a land-based platform. The missile can carry both conventional and nuclear charges and can be used at the strategic level.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Nov. 28, commenting on Ukraine 's requests for additional arms supplies from Western allies, urged not to forget about Russian systems such as the Kalibr, Kinzhal and Zirkon.
British analyst Alexander Mercouris said on 22 November that the possible deployment of the Zirkon missiles along with the Kinzhal in the special operation zone would be very bad news for the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
