Water balance is one of the most important parameters of each person's vital activity. And maintaining a normal water balance is a complex mechanism of internal regulation, said Marina Berezhnaya, a general practitioner and head of the emergency and urgent care department of the European Medical Center (EMC). She told Izvestia on December 10 about the consequences of insufficient water consumption and overabundance.

"If there is not enough fluid in the body, the nervous system gives a signal. We start to feel thirsty. This is what happens in the norm, this process is absolutely physiological and habitual. But if a person is deprived of the opportunity to replenish the water balance or these losses are too great due to various diseases, for example, then many physiological metabolic processes suffer," - said the expert.

According to her, water plays an important role in most of these processes. In this case, the consequences of lack of fluid in the body can be very different: it all depends on the cause of fluid loss and the duration of dehydration. But in the most severe cases and without medical help, a person can even die, emphasized the doctor.

"The overabundance of fluid in the body is also a complex medical problem. As a rule, fluid in the body is retained due to serious heart, kidney and lung diseases, and not always this condition is caused by excessive water consumption," Berezhnaya said.

She added that the amount of water consumption per day, especially with a history of serious chronic diseases, should be discussed with the attending physician. The expert advised not to take risks in such cases, because both the lack of water and its overabundance can be very dangerous to health.

Earlier, on December 8, endocrinologist, specialist in preventive and anti-age medicine of the European Medical Center (EMC) Elena Ostrovskaya told "Izvestia" that people with allergies and people with various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract should be careful when eating nuts. A safe amount of nuts per day is about 30 g.
