Deputies of the City Duma of Stavropol at the meeting on Friday, December 6, changed the Charter of the regional capital. More than 20 amendments were made to the document, the press service of the City Duma reports.

Some provisions of the charter, including its name, are set out in a new edition. There appeared an additional article defining the forms of inter-municipal cooperation.

The document was changed, in particular, to increase the number of deputies by 30% - from 30 to 39 people. The expanded composition will be elected in 2026.

As StavropolMedia IA notes, the number of people's elected representatives will be larger due to the increase in the number of citizens. According to the All-Russian census, more than half a million people live in the regional capital. The federal law on self-government states that a city with such a population cannot have less than 35 deputies.

Adjustments to the charter were previously agreed with the Stavropol Department of the Ministry of Justice, conducted an anti-corruption examination and public hearings.

Earlier it was reported that Stavropol within two years will reach the "transportation bottom" because of the constant 9-point traffic jams and a difficult situation with buses. The reasons for this situation were, in particular, the lack of dedicated lanes and a shortage of drivers.
