Central University and AIRI Institute are creating a laboratory for artificial intelligence (AI), data analysis and modeling. The laboratory will conduct fundamental research and train new generation scientists, the press service of the Central University reported.

The laboratory will be headed by Professor, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Alexander Gorban. He was engaged in science in the leading mathematical centers of the world, and now he has returned home from abroad. The scientist has published more than 20 books and 250 scientific articles.

"After so many years abroad, it is nice to see how the Russian education system is being modified - it is becoming more progressive and practice-oriented. After graduating from an educational institution, a student should understand where he or she can apply his or her knowledge. In my opinion, the position of Central University in this respect is very correct, starting from the conscious choice of one's profession and ending with internships in partner companies. The synergy of fundamental knowledge, science and business is a system that Central University has and that I would like to see in many Russian universities," Gorban said.

The lab's work will focus on several areas: multi-agent heterogeneous AI systems, new and fundamental models and systems of machine learning, as well as practical analysis of big data from different fields.

According to Central University Rector Eugene Ivashkevich, the lab not only provides access to cutting-edge developments in AI, but also cultivates an interdisciplinary approach, nurturing versatile scientists.

"They will be able to adapt to rapidly changing conditions and solve complex problems. This is a significant step towards the development of the domestic IT community and popularization of artificial intelligence in our country," he stressed.

Through interdisciplinary interaction and knowledge synthesis, the lab will significantly accelerate progress in artificial intelligence, neural network training, intelligent data processing and mathematical modeling, Central University concluded.
