Fitzo says EU breakup possible in six months

The European Union (EU) may collapse in six months like a house of cards. This statement was made by Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo on December 9 in an interview published on the YouTube channel Spravodajca.
Among other things, he urged not to be surprised that this could happen and expressed his fears that negative changes could happen to benefit the "selfish national goals" of France and Germany.
"We are entering terrible times. <...> I foresee further great instability for the EU. <...> Suddenly French President [Emmanuel] Macron, whose government has collapsed, is talking about the need for harmonization, centralization. The European Union can crumble like a house of cards in six months. So I expect this year to be incredibly difficult and challenging," Fico said.
Earlier, on December 7, the Daily Express newspaper wrote that the new agreement of the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen with the Common Market of the South (MERCOSUR) may cause a split of the European Union due to the emerging disagreements between France, Germany and Belgium. It was specified that the residents and government of France are concerned about the deal, because they are afraid of undermining the domestic markets of poultry and beef, while in Germany consider this agreement as a means of increasing exports.
Before that, on November 15, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that Europe's economic path is comparable to suicide. In his opinion, the imposition of sanctions against Russia, imposed by Brussels, was wrong. Orban noted that the imposed restrictions led to an increase in energy prices, which caused inflation in the country. At the same time, European countries do not have enough money to finance the conflict in Ukraine.
