Putin called for a balance between security and development when dealing with the internet and AI

When dealing with the Internet and artificial intelligence (AI), a balance between ensuring security and development opportunities is important. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin on December 9.

"We must build our work in such a way as to ensure security, but, on the other hand, not to stand, as they call it, in the way of progress and by our actions not to hinder the development of those areas of activity, which would certainly contribute to our own development," Putin said at a meeting with the chairmen of parliaments of the member states of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) in the Kremlin.

The head of state called it a difficult task to achieve such a balance. In addition, he noted that the legal regulation of the Internet, artificial intelligence, robotics and the use of big data require special attention in order to achieve this goal.

Earlier, on November 21, Dmitry Solopov, president of the PROGRESS communications group, told Izvestia that every third creative project in Russia is created using AI. This saves employees' time and helps them focus on more creative and strategic aspects, he noted.

On November 7, Putin called artificial intelligence an essential tool for development. The Russian president noted that despite the country's labor shortage, this and other economic problems will be solved in the future thanks to the development of AI. The head of state added that there is also an opportunity to develop the nuclear sphere with the help of artificial intelligence, but it is worth carefully regulating it.

On October 21, it was reported that in 2024 the Ministry of Finance together with Sberbank launched a pilot project on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the budget process. It was noted that most of the stages of the budget process can be automated over time and part of the operations can be fully transferred to AI.
