Russia will launch unmanned cargo transportation in Gazelles

The Russian Federation will launch unmanned cargo transportation by Gazel trucks, the National Technological Initiative (NTI) Project Support Fund told Izvestia. They specified that such a solution was created based on the results of a technological competition and will be immediately applied in commercial transportation.
The technology has been successfully tested in the special economic zone (SEZ) "Alabuga" (Republic of Tatarstan). The NTI Foundation organized the technological competition "Fifth Level", as a result of which MIPT and MADI launched a version of Gazelle, capable of unmanned transportation of goods up to 120 km. The winning team received support of 120 million rubles.
"The unmanned vehicle is equipped with technical means for autonomous movement. The creators have developed a control algorithm that takes into account the peculiarities of electric vehicle operation. The technology has been tested in real conditions of high conflict and accident risks," the NTI Foundation noted.
It added that the algorithm for autonomous control uses information about the vehicle's environment, based on which it generates control actions.
"In fact, the car knows when it is raining or snowing, what strength of wind, whether there are traffic jams, ice, etc.," - specified in the fund.
