Russian President Vladimir Putin has decided to create a council for the implementation of demographic and family policy. The corresponding decree was posted on December 9 on the portal of official publication of legal acts.

"To form the Council under the President of the Russian Federation on the realization of the state demographic and family policy," - stated in the text of the document.

By the same decree, the head of state abolished the Presidential Council on the realization of state policy in the sphere of protection of the family and children.

Speaker of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko was appointed Chairman of the Council on Demographic and Family Policy.

Earlier, on November 23, Putin signed a law on fines of up to 5 million rubles for propaganda of the ideology of childbearing refusal (Childfree). On the same day, the Russian president signed a document that bans the adoption of children from Russia by citizens of countries that allow gender reassignment.

In July, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted during a meeting with participants of the Festival of New Media that the average birth rate in Russia is at 1.4. He emphasized that this is comparable to European countries and Japan, and said that the government is doing a lot of work and implementing a whole set of measures to improve the situation.
