In Italy, two dead after explosion at Eni oil company facility

Two people were killed and nine injured after an explosion occurred at the facility of the Italian oil and gas company Eni in Calenzano (Italian region of Tuscany). This was reported on December 9 by the Italian newspaper La Repubblica.

It is noted that four people are currently missing. After the explosion at the scene of the emergency started a fire. Authorities recommended citizens to keep closed windows and not to approach the scene. The causes of the explosion are still unknown. Specialists are working to find out.

Tuscany Governor Eugenio Giani added that experts from the regional environmental agency are assessing whether there has been any impact of pollutants on the atmosphere.

"A column of smoke is also visible from nearby municipalities, where the regional emergency medical system, firefighters and law enforcement agencies are on the scene," he was quoted as saying by the Nel Quotidiano portal.

According to media reports, the rumble from the explosion, which was heard by all residents of the area, was heard around 10:20 (12:20 Moscow time). It is specified that the emergency occurred at the loading site. As a result, the facility shattered glass and collapsed suspended ceilings. All hospitals and emergency rooms in the region are warned that the number of victims and injured may increase.

Earlier, on November 27, it was reported that three people were killed and seven injured in an explosion at a factory in the village of Ibi in the Spanish province of Alicante. According to the information and coordination center for emergency situations, the incident occurred around 12:00 local time (14:00 Moscow time). As a result of the boiler explosion, the roof and part of the walls of the factory collapsed, leaving several people who were in the warehouse trapped under the rubble.
