The Yantar plant of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) handed over to the Indian Navy a frigate of Project 11356 Tushil ("Shield") in Kaliningrad in the presence of the country's Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This was told to "Izvestia" on December 9 in the press service of the enterprise.

"Project 11356 ships are very actively used by the Indian Navy. These are multifunctional ships, which with a relatively small displacement have high combat capabilities against surface, land, underwater and air targets. Thus, Project 11356 fully fits into the modern trend of military shipbuilding," Yantar Shipyard noted.

Yantar Shipyard in the process of building the ships used the developments and advanced technologies of Russian shipbuilding, as well as its experience in similar projects for the Russian Navy.

"The peculiarity of building an order for foreigners is the installation of the foreign customer's equipment. Its integration with Russian systems, as well as joint work of Russian and foreign contractors during testing, at the final stages of construction. In addition to building frigates, we also train Indian crew and specialists, transfer experience and knowledge to them for future service on this frigate and for further construction of ships in India," said Ilya Samarin, General Director of JSC Yantar Shipyard.

The ship was built in accordance with the contract signed between Rosoboronexport and the Indian Navy for the construction of two Project 11356 frigates in Russia. This is the fourth frigate built at the Kaliningrad shipyard of OSK for the Indian Navy. Earlier, it successfully completed acceptance trials with the participation of the Indian commission. Tushil's crew was trained in Russia.

The second frigate to be built at the Kaliningrad shipyard, Tamal, is the 8th ship of this project for the Indian Navy. It is currently undergoing a cycle of trials in the Baltic Sea. The ship is scheduled for delivery in 2025.

On June 21, the Russian government approved the signing of an agreement between the Russian Federation and India on mutual dispatch of troops, warships aviation in the territories of the two countries. The project was preliminarily worked out with the Indian side. On August 23, a delegation of the Russian Defense Ministry discussed with Indian counterparts during an official visit to the country the possibilities of expanding naval cooperation between the two countries.

Prior to that, on February 19, ships of the Pacific Fleet of the Russian Navy - the Varyag guards missile cruiser of the Order of Nakhimov and the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate - participated in the international multilateral naval exercise MILAN-2024, which was held in India. For training, Russian sailors visited the Indian port of Vishakhapatnam and spent more than a week there. In addition to the exercises, the naval personnel of the Talnakh Conventional Naval Forces took part in sports and cultural programs.
