The Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) are trying to reach the launch site of Russia's newest medium-range ballistic missile Oreshnik, but all their unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) will be shot down. Viktor Zavarzin, a member of the State Duma Defense Committee, said this on Monday, December 9, reacting to a new attempt by the Ukrainian army to strike the Kapustin Yar training range located in the Astrakhan region.

"They are looking for facilities that are important to them. They are trying to get there. They won't get there, of course. Everything will be shot down. They are having their last convulsions, so naturally they are trying to show it there. They're trying to fly. But we will shoot everything down," the deputy said in a conversation with Lenta.Ru.

Zavarzin said that Russia has made a big adjustment on electronic warfare (EW) systems and air defense (AD) systems, RT reports.

Earlier it became known that the AFU with the help of several drones tried to attack the Oreshnik launch site, RIAMO writes. On the approach to the Kapustin Yar firing range, located in the Astrakhan region, three drones were shot down. According to preliminary data, all UAVs were launched from the territory of the Dnepropetrovsk region, 360.ru reports.

December 7, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Western experts are studying what military facilities of NATO countries will be within the radius of defeat of the "Oreshnik" system, if it is deployed in Belarus, reports NSN.

On the same day, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces Sergei Lagodyuk said that the decision to deploy the Russian complex "Oreshnik" was taken against the background of the U.S. and German position on the deployment of medium-range missiles in Europe, writes Life.Ru.

On November 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced about the combat test of the Oreshnik ballistic missile - one of the newest Russian medium-range missile systems. He emphasized that this step was taken in response to the escalation on the part of Western countries in Ukraine. In the following days, the head of state specified that Russia would continue these tests and that the decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been taken.
