In London, two female cyclists flew over a guardrail in a collision at a race


At the Champions League cycling track meet in London, British cyclist Katie Marchant collided with German Alessa-Katriona Prepster during the race, both athletes flew over the fence. This was reported by The Guardian newspaper on December 8.
The athletes turned right at the same time on the approach to the left turn, and both flipped over the guardrails. As a result of the incident, in addition to the racers, four spectators were injured.
No one was seriously injured. Marchant broke her arm and dislocated two fingers, but her condition was assessed as stable.
"After receiving prompt medical attention from the medical team at the track, Katie Marchant was taken to hospital by a British Cycling doctor. X-rays revealed a fractured radius and ulna on her right forearm, as well as two dislocated fingers. <...> Prepster, as well as spectators, left the [race] venue after receiving medical attention," the newspaper quoted a statement from the International Cycling Union (UCI) as saying.
Earlier, on September 27, it became known that Swiss cyclist Murielle Furrer died at the age of 18 after falling during the women's junior road race. It was reported that the athlete fell during the event, sustaining a serious head injury. She was taken to hospital by helicopter in extremely serious condition. However, she passed away at a hospital in Zurich.
