Common sense should point out to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, whose powers expired in May, the need to conclude a peace agreement with Russia. This was stated by Svetlana Zhurova, first deputy chairman of the State Duma's international affairs committee, on Monday, December 9, responding to US leader-elect Donald Trump's statement about Zelensky's expressed desire for a ceasefire.

The day before, Trump said it was time for Russian leader Vladimir Putin to act and emphasized: "The world is waiting!" In addition, at a meeting with Zelensky, he suggested that he wanted an immediate ceasefire, according to the website kp.ru. The Ukrainian president in his Telegram channel later issued a refusal.

On the same day, Trump said that Zelensky would like to "make a deal" with Russia, 360.ru reported. According to him, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and start negotiations, otherwise the Ukrainian conflict may worsen. It is specified that Ukraine saw an opportunity to get closer to the future leader of the United States and convey to him its position in the conflict, writes RIAMO.

According to Zhurova, if Zelensky has even a little common sense left, he should want peace and a ceasefire.

"Trump was recently asked if he would participate in the negotiations, and he answered: 'If I can.' This is the right answer, because in any case the peace agreement will be signed by Putin and Zelensky," the politician told Lenta.Ru.

Zhurova added that Trump does not have much time left, while trying to be a man of his word and complete the process before the inauguration.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump's words about Kiev's desire to "make a deal," reminded on December 8 that President Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries, reports IA Regnum.

Earlier, on November 26, political scientist Rostislav Ishchenko said that Trump will use the entire arsenal of American capabilities, and the choice of manner of dealing will depend on the specific political situation, Pravda.Ru writes.

The last round of negotiations took place in Istanbul on March 29, 2022. Later, Kiev officially refused contacts with Moscow.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
