Ukrainian Deputy Education and Science Minister Mykhaylo Vinnitskyy has said that the country may disband medical universities for their further classification into "classical universities" in order to eradicate the Soviet legacy. The Ukrainian publication Judicial-Legal Gazette reported on December 9.

"In fact, this is a Soviet vestige - specialized medical institutions of higher education. It would be more useful to us for quality if we had powerful medical faculties within classical universities," the Ukrainian deputy education and science minister said.

According to Vinnitsky, there are 15 medical universities in Ukraine, when in European countries there are no more than four. Therefore, according to him, it is necessary to move to an "evolutionary model" in which medical faculties are part of classical universities.

On December 8, Ukraine demolished the Soviet tank monument IS-2, dedicated to Soviet designer Joseph Kotin, at the entrance to Pavlograd.

Earlier, on December 4, in a conversation with Izvestia, the chairman of the International Center for Combating Crime and Terrorism, international political scientist Enes Karakhanov commented on the demolition of the monument to poet Alexander Pushkin in Odessa. He said that the Ukrainian authorities and the West, despite all attempts, will not be able to make people dislike and forget Russian culture.

The policy of so-called decolonization was a continuation of decommunization in Ukraine, which began in 2015 as part of the law "On Condemnation of Communist and Nazi Regimes." It prescribes demolishing monuments, dismantling memorial plaques, and renaming all topographical objects whose names are associated with the USSR or Russia. This policy became especially acute after the start of the Russian Federation's special operation to defend Donbass in February 2022.
