The new European Commissioner for technological sovereignty of the European Union (EU) Henna Virkkunen intends to restore relations with American entrepreneur Ilon Musk after threats from her predecessor Thierry Breton to impose sanctions against the billionaire's platform X (formerly Twitter). The British newspaper Financial Times (FT) reported on December 9.

"The new head of the EU's tech agency has adopted a conciliatory stance towards Ilon Musk as Brussels seeks to repair relations with the American billionaire after a public spat filled with invective," the publication said.

As the publication explained, Virkkunen said she would not single out any major IT company accused of violating EU rules. According to the FT, this is very different from the position of her predecessor, who publicly threatened to sanction Musk's platform for allegedly malicious content.

According to Virkkunen, every online platform will be treated equally, as the most important thing is for companies to respect EU rules.

In August this year, it was reported that Breton sent a letter threatening to penalize Musk for allegedly malicious content on social network X (formerly Twitter).

On December 1, the powers of the new European Commission headed by Ursula von der Leyen began, which was approved by the European Parliament on November 27.

On the same day, political scientist and international relations expert Enes Karakhanov told Izvestia that former Estonian Prime Minister Kallas is hardly capable of radically changing the European Union's foreign policy as High Representative for Foreign Affairs. He noted that Kallas's appointment caused a resonance, as many in Europe consider her responsible for a number of problems.
