French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Warsaw this week to meet with his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to discuss the conflict in Ukraine. The Polish newspaper Gazeta Wyborcza reported on December 9 that the visit will take place on Thursday, December 12.

It is noted that during the talks Macron should tell the Polish leadership about his meeting with US President-elect Donald Trump, as well as with Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (whose term of office expired on May 20). The parties' talks took place on December 7 in Paris.

"The French president is to talk to President Duda and Prime Minister Tusk about Ukraine. We have confirmed this information by two diplomatic sources," the media outlet pointed out.

According to the newspaper, Tusk and Macron agreed to meet in November at the European Political Community summit in Budapest.

Earlier, on December 8, the American portal Axios, citing diplomatic sources, reported that Trump had no desire to hold a meeting with Zelensky in Paris, but he was persuaded to do so by the French leader. The media also pointed out that the final decision to hold the trilateral meeting was made shortly before it began. The conversation between the politicians lasted 45 minutes and was "good and fruitful".

At the same time, The New York Times reported that the meeting between Trump and Zelensky at the opening of the Cathedral of Notre Dame de Paris demonstrated Kiev's willingness to make concessions on negotiations. It was specified that Ukraine saw an opportunity to get closer to the future American leader and convey to him its position in the conflict. After the meeting, the US President-elect said that Zelensky would like to "make a deal" with Russia.

Before that, on December 6, political scientist Ivan Mezyukho told Izvestia that many Western politicians themselves realize that they are lying when they talk about the likelihood of Ukraine's victory in the conflict. Thus, he commented on the reaction of Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov's speech at a meeting of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). The minister said that there are no spheres in which the OSCE can be useful in terms of its tasks. Responding to this, Eide accused Russia of disrespecting the integrity of other states and assured that "Ukraine will win."

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
