The Moscow High-Speed Diameter has relieved the Moscow Ring Road by 12-15% and the TTC by 9-12%, said Konstantin Trofimenko, director of the Center for Smart City Research at the Higher School of Economics.

"This is a huge positive effect for the city. However, after the upcoming connection with the federal highway M-2 and the Warsaw highway, the highway will become even more popular. It is expected that by 2025 the flow will grow to 470 thousand cars per day, and the congestion during rush hour will be high," the expert noted.

According to him, as a result of the implementation of these projects, the southern direction of the FFM will be connected with the Warsaw, Simferopol, Kaluga, Kiev, Borovsk and Minsk highways. "The maximum flow increase on the Moscow High-Speed Diameter is forecasted in 2025 and 2026 with the commissioning of all the sections of the FFM and the Solntsevo-Butovo-Varshavskoye Highway (SBV) highway under construction," Trofimenko added.

In his opinion, the optimal solution for unloading the FFM will be the introduction of tolling during peak hours. "Only such a measure will allow to keep the high speed of traffic on the highway," the specialist believes.

According to Trofimenko, the Moscow High-Speed Diameter, which connected the districts of the capital and the region, is now more popular than the Garden Ring and is second only to the Moscow Ring Road and the TTK. About 400 thousand cars pass through the diameter per day.

The expert also said that in other countries, such as China and the UAE, there are toll intra-city highways. At the same time, China has some of the most expensive tolls on such highways. The average price for each kilometer of highway varies from 75 to 150 rubles on average.
