There were 500 road accidents in Russia over the weekend

Over the past weekend, 500 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 67 people were killed and 688 injured. 19 of the dead were pedestrians, the other 48 were drivers and passengers. This was reported to "Izvestia" on Monday, December 9, in the State Automobile Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

With the participation of buses on the roads of Russia recorded 25 accidents, in which five people died, 35 more required medical care. The cause of 20 accidents with buses was the violation of traffic rules by drivers of other vehicles.

Thus, in the Ivanovo region at the 197th km of the federal highway R-132 "Golden Ring" the driver of a passenger car during overtaking in snowfall conditions went into the oncoming lane, where he collided with a truck, and then crashed into the overtaken intercity bus with 10 passengers in the cabin. As a result of the accident, the perpetrator of the accident and his passenger were killed, another passenger of the passenger car was in hospital, four passengers of the bus were sent for outpatient treatment after medical care.

The traffic police urged motorists to observe traffic rules and driving discipline. In order to ensure safety, drivers should refuse risky manner of driving, especially in bad weather, neglecting the established speed limits and making dangerous maneuvers, which often create prerequisites for accidents, the agency said.

With the participation of minors 55 accidents were registered, as a result of which 61 young road users were injured, including 15 pedestrians, 43 passengers and two drivers of motorized vehicles. One child pedestrian died. Thus, in the city of Kopeysk, Chelyabinsk region, the driver of a passenger car hit a ten-year-old boy who was unaccompanied by adults and in violation of traffic rules crossed the roadway in the absence of an organized crosswalk in the visibility zone. The young pedestrian died. And in Vladivostok, a female driver of a passenger car hit a ten-year-old schoolboy who was crossing the road within the boundaries of an unregulated intersection on the sidewalk. As a result of the accident, the boy was hospitalized with injuries.

"We recommend motorists to be especially careful when passing intersections. Never be in a hurry to start or continue driving when changing traffic signals, control the traffic situation. Remember that the behavior of children and elderly pedestrians on the road is often unpredictable, so always reduce speed up to a complete stop of the vehicle when approaching crosswalks to have time to miss pedestrians crossing the roadway. In turn, parents of minors are advised to be more attentive to their children of primary school age, accompany them to school, as well as to clubs and sports clubs. We also recommend to equip children's clothes with retroreflective elements to make young road users more visible to drivers in the dark, dusk or bad weather," - said "Izvestia" deputy head of the department of propaganda of the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, police colonel Anton Belan.
