The Romanian Defence Ministry has called misinformation reports that the country is preparing to mobilize reservists to be sent to Ukraine. This was reported by the Adevarul newspaper on 8 December with a reference to the ministry's statement.

According to it, claims about the upcoming draft of reservists and those aged between 18 and 35 began appearing on social media, mainly on TikTok.

"All this information is false," the ministry said in a commentary.

The ministry called the purpose of spreading such messages the creation of panic and uncertainty in society and promised to inform about all such cases.

Earlier, on 5 December, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stressed that statements by European politicians about sending troops to Ukraine only aggravate the situation. The diplomat noted that the authors of such proposals prefer to persistently ignore the warnings of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Before that, on 1 December, the head of the European diplomacy, Kaja Kallas, said that the possibility of European countries sending troops to Ukraine could not be ruled out. She also suggested that after the ceasefire, Europe could "send peacekeeping forces" to monitor its observance if Kiev decides to do so.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to protect Donbas, which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, after the situation in the region worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military.
