Essential oils can have a significant impact on the body. It is crucial to realize that not every combination of them is beneficial, experts say. Doctors from Invitro Clinic and Invitro Severo-Zapad told Izvestia on December 10 about how aromatic inhalers can affect children's bodies.

"We do not know the composition: what exactly substances are contained in this mixture. In some devices, the composition is not specified at all, while in others they talk about supposedly harmless essential oils combined with harmless flavorings. In this case, the whole question is the concentration of these substances and the duration of their use by the child", - explained Andrey Pozdnyakov, candidate of medical sciences, infectious disease doctor, chief physician of the clinical diagnostic laboratory of LLC "Invitro Siberia".

According to him, the key aspect is the concentration of the aroma-inhaler and the duration of its use by the child. Even a harmless substance with frequent and uncontrolled use can cause very serious problems, such as chemical damage to mucous membranes.

Also, a harmless substance in high concentrations can be dangerous. There have been no studies on how prolonged use of aromatic inhalers affects the nervous and respiratory systems, as well as the mucous membranes, emphasized the specialist.

"Essential oils can have serious effects on the body. It is important to realize that not every combination of essential oils is beneficial. <...> A very big role is played by the way in which essential oils are obtained, what is the degree of their purification, in what quantities they are used," said Lyudmila Tishchenko, a physician-biochemist, advisor to the general director of Invitro.

According to Tishchenko, it is necessary to understand what oils are contained in the inhaler solution, in what proportions they are in, whether they are compatible with each other and how they affect the body, especially children's bodies.

"Breathing such inhalers is not a good idea, especially for children. There can be complications from the side of the oropharynx. In addition, the unknown composition of the mixture suggests that it is unsafe and can at least lead to serious allergic reactions, in particular to Quincke's edema," - said the pediatrician, doctor allergologist-immunologist "Invitro North-West" Larisa Faber.

As Faber noted, the unknown composition of the aromatic mixture in the inhaler affects the receptors of mucous membranes, which leads to the transmission of nerve impulses to the brain. Also, many cases of pronounced dizziness and feelings of nausea have already been recorded. These symptoms occur due to the negative effect of the vapors of the mixture on the liver and gallbladder.

Earlier, on November 25, dentist-therapist "SM-Stomatology" Alina Bolataeva told "Izvestia" about the consequences to which vapes can lead. According to her, such a bad habit can result in loss of teeth.
