Trump: Zelensky wants to start negotiations and make peace with Russia

US President-elect Donald Trump said on Sunday, December 8, that Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired on May 20) wants to start negotiations and make peace with Russia.
"He (Zelensky. - Ed.) wants to make peace. <...> He thinks it's time," he said in a telephone interview with the New York Post.
According to Trump, the Ukrainian president wants to achieve a ceasefire, but they did not discuss the details at the meeting in Paris.
In addition, the US President-elect said that he himself is developing the concept of ending the conflict.
Earlier in the day, Trump wrote in the social network Truth Social that the time has come for negotiations on Ukraine. He also said that the next White House administration may reduce the amount of military aid to Ukraine.
Commenting on these statements, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.
The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the backdrop of the worsening situation in the region.
