A bill, providing fines of up to Br500 thousand for the sale of energy drinks to children, is being prepared for submission to the State Duma. This was reported by the chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin on Monday, December 9.

"A bill is being prepared for introduction, which will provide fines for the sale of energy drinks to children: for individuals - up to 50 thousand rubles; for officials - up to 200 thousand rubles; for legal entities - up to 500 thousand rubles," he wrote in his Telegram-channel.

Volodin also recalled the law adopted by the State Duma on November 26, prohibiting the sale of potentially dangerous goods with gas to minors, and proposed to introduce fines for its violation: up to Br60 thousand for individuals, up to Br300 thousand for officials and up to Br600 thousand for legal entities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the law prohibiting the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks, including energy drinks, to minors on August 8. Prior to that, on August 2, senators of the Federation Council approved the law.

As Polina Kontzedailo, a cardiologist and medical expert of INVITRO, told in late June, energy drinks affect the nervous and cardiovascular systems due to the content of caffeine and taurine. In addition, excessive sugars can lead to obesity and diabetes. Constant consumption of energy drinks can cause the development of addiction.
