US President-elect Donald Trump has started to specify his foreign policy towards Ukraine. This was stated by the head of the Security Council's commission on information policy, Aleksey Pushkov, on 8 December.

He said that Trump's opponents realize that his words may diverge from reality.

"Tough handshakes akin to an attempt to split [French President Emmanuel] Macron's hand is one thing, but objective dependence on NATO allies is another," Pushkov wrote in his Telegram channel.

Also, he said that even though Trump will not be able to replace all representatives of the "deep state" in the government, he has high authority to influence US policy on Ukraine.

"Trump is beginning to concretize his foreign policy program. <...> Trump is capable of making serious adjustments to the US line on Ukraine by the force of his personality," Pushkov added.

On the same day, Trump made a statement that after the change of the US administration, Washington is likely to reduce the volume of military aid to Ukraine. In addition, the American leader said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term of office expired on May 20) would like to "make a deal" with Russia. According to him, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and start negotiations, otherwise the Ukrainian conflict may worsen. It is specified that Ukraine saw an opportunity to get closer to the future US leader and convey to him its position in the conflict.

In turn, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting on Trump's words about Kiev's desire to "make a deal," recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly said that Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and welcomes proposals from China, India, Brazil and other countries.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
