Ebeko volcano in the Kuril Islands threw ash to a height of 5 km


In the Northern Kurils on the volcano Ebeko recorded ash emission at a height of 5 km. This was reported on December 9 in the State Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia in the Sakhalin region.
"We received information that on the volcano Ebeko (height - 1156 m, located 7 km from the town of Severo-Kurilsk, in the northern part of the Vernadsky Ridge) there was an ash emission at a height of 5 km. The plume spread in the northern direction for a distance of more than 5 km," - stated in the message of the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations in Telegram-channel.
It is noted that in the city of Severo-Kurilsk ashfall, the smell of hydrogen sulfide and the threat to the population is not. At the same time, there were no calls and complaints from the population.

Ebeko is located in the north of Paramushir. The height of the volcano is 1156 meters. It has been assigned an orange color code of danger for aviation. This code is assigned to volcanoes that show increased activity with a high probability of eruption.
