Hamas is studying a new proposal handed over by Egypt for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a hostage exchange, Ahmed Abdel Hadi, the Palestinian movement's representative in Lebanon, told Izvestia.

"Recently, a delegation of the movement's leadership heard ideas from the brothers in Egypt with a new proposal in this regard. Of course, as usual, the movement is studying this, after which it will give its response to this proposal," Hamas told Izvestia.

According to Ahmed Abdel Hadi, Qatar has also resumed mediation in the Gaza negotiation process. The monarchy had previously said it had suspended mediation efforts.

"In light of this positive atmosphere, Qatar has resumed mediation and we are grateful for its efforts. Indeed, activity has begun in this area, primarily with Egyptian and Qatari mediation. This is happening with their active communication with us. The Americans are also involved in this, they are communicating with Israel," the movement reported.

The Axios portal reported on December 4 that Israel, through Egyptian intelligence, passed to the Palestinian Hamas movement an updated draft of a deal providing for the release of some Israeli hostages and a ceasefire in Gaza.
