An army aviation crew on a Mi-28NM helicopter as part of a mixed tactical group in the border area of Kursk Region has struck personnel and a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) with air missiles. This was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry on December 9.

According to the ministry, the pilots of the army aviation in the course of the combat mission to support ground troops launched missiles according to the coordinates of the aviation gunner, destroying the stronghold and enemy personnel. The crew also performed anti-missile maneuvering at extremely low altitude, firing heat traps to prevent enemy man-portable air defense missiles from hitting the missiles.

In doing so, the forward air gunner later confirmed the destruction of the target.

Earlier, on December 8, the crew of a Su-34 multirole supersonic fighter-bomber of the Air and Space Forces launched a strike on a cluster of AFU personnel, armored and vehicle military equipment in the Kursk border region. The Russian Defense Ministry said that the strike was carried out by aircraft bombs with a universal planning and correction module (UMPK).

The AFU attacked Russian positions in the border areas of Kursk Region on August 6. The situation in the region was recognized as a federal emergency. The operation to destroy the militants continues.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was taken against the background of the aggravated situation in the region.
