The current situation in Syria may be fraught with civil war in the country. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on December 8.

"We are following the developments in Syria and do not want to allow fears to arise. These fears are related to the possibility of starting a civil or sectarian war, partial or complete disintegration of Syria and turning it into a safe haven for terrorists," Iran's IRIB news agency quoted him as saying.

Araqchi also noted that Iranian authorities are ready to cooperate with the new Syrian government only on the conditions of their refusal to support terrorists, distancing themselves from Israel, and respecting the rights of Syria's Shiites.

"It is not easy to make different factions and clans agree on the future government of Syria, but we support this process as we want the will of the Syrian people to prevail," he concluded.

Earlier, on December 7, US President Joe Biden said that the situation in Syria is uncertain, but it can be used to build a better future.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said earlier in the day that Bashar al-Assad, as a result of negotiations with the opposition, had decided to leave the post of head of state and leave the country, instructing to carry out the transfer of power peacefully. Later the same day, Izvestiya source reported that Bashar al-Assad flew to Moscow. The politician is in the Russian Federation with members of his family.

On Sunday, the AFP news agency reported about a fire in the presidential palace of Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. And Syria's National Coalition of Revolutionary and Opposition Forces said it was working to form a "transitional governing body."

Meanwhile, SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said most of the Syrian government ministers remain in Damascus. He emphasized that he is ready to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people.

On November 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the opposition activation part of the US plan amid Israel's defeat in Lebanon. The White House denied its involvement in the events.

A day earlier it was reported that armed formations launched a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the Syrian army began to repel it, causing serious damage to equipment and manpower of militants.
