The Investigative Committee (IC) has opened a criminal case against a military medic who implanted ammunition fragments in people to simulate wounds and receive compensation. Chairman of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin told RIA Novosti on December 8.

"The military medic, acting together with two higher officials, performed surgical operations to implant ammunition fragments to simulate wounds. Fictitious information was then entered into documents, on the basis of which payments were made," he said.

Bastrykin also pointed out that the defendants in the case had stolen more than 12 million rubles.

Earlier in the day, the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation told Izvestia that Russian officers organized imitation of injuries of servicemen and thus stole 240 million rubles. It is specified that six officers organized the imitation of injuries of 45 military men and thus received funds intended for compensation to the military. The accomplices of the crime are brought to criminal responsibility, the IC added.

November 14, Russia signed a decree on a lump-sum payment of Br4 million to the participants of a special military operation, disabled as a result of wounds and injuries.
