A magnitude 6.3 earthquake has been recorded off the Aleutian Islands


An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 was recorded near the Aleutian Islands, near the maritime border between Russia and the United States. This was reported by the U.S. Geological Survey(USGS) on December 8.
According to the published information, the origin of the earthquake was at a depth of 18 km and was recorded at 22:57 Moscow time. It was located 113 km from the city of Adak in Alaska.
Earlier in the day, the head of the seismological station "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk" Elena Semenova said that an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 was recorded in the Northern Kurils. It is specified that the origin of the earthquake was located in the Sea of Okhotsk at a depth of 291 km, 86 km northwest of the Kuril island of Matua.
