The AFU destroyed a church in the Kurakhov direction during the retreat

An Orthodox church on the Maryinka dam separating Maryinka and Georgievka was destroyed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (AFU) while retreating to Kurakhovka. Images of the destroyed church are at the disposal of Izvestia.

It is reported that earlier Ukrainian militants stored ammunition in the church. However, now only a pile of bricks lies in the place of the church.

According to Izvestia correspondent Evgeny Bykovsky, from the temple remained one of the columns with a fresco, the domes are rubble.

"From the temple remained only images of some frescoes from the walls. According to preliminary information, the AFU blew up this temple during the retreat. Ukrainian militants are purposefully destroying churches and regularly strike them," Bykovsky reports.

Earlier, on December 7, fighters of the groups of forces "Center" and "South" told about the battles in the area of Kurakhovo. The military forces of the Russian Armed Forces continue battles for settlements in the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR). Thus, in the vicinity of Kurakhovo continues "closing" the trap for Ukrainian militants. The Russian Armed Forces are also fighting for the village of Starye Terny. According to fighters, brutal trench skirmishes are taking place in the forest belts near Kurakhovo.

On December 4, an adviser to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DNR), Igor Kimakovskyy, said that the Russian Armed Forces had taken a large section of the Zaporizhzhya-Kurakhovo highway under fire control. According to Kimakovsky, the southern direction is working from the northern bank of the Kurakhovo reservoir in order to displace the AFU fighters.

Prior to that, on November 25, it became known that the grouping of troops "South" of the Russian army continues the offensive on the city of Kurakhovo DNR, as well as preparing a large cauldron for Ukrainian servicemen. It was specified that the situation around Kurakhovo is extremely unfavorable for the AFU.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the beginning of which Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24, 2022, continues. The decision was made against the backdrop of the aggravated situation in the region.
