US forces have carried out several dozen precision strikes on the bases of the international terrorist organization "Islamic State" (IS, banned in Russia) in Syria. This was reported by the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on December 8.

"During the operation, more than 75 targets were struck using a variety of US Air Force assets, including B-52, F-15 and A-10 aircraft. The strikes against IS leaders, fighters and camps were conducted as part of an ongoing mission to disrupt, degrade and defeat the organization," a statement on CENTCOM's X (former Twitter) page said.

It is specified that no civilians were injured in the strikes. US forces plan to continue operations to destroy IS and during the "unstable period in Syria".

"There should be no doubt: we will not allow IS to recover and take advantage of the current situation in Syria", - quotes the words of General Michael Eric Kurilla CENTCOM.

Earlier in the day, US President Joe Biden said that the US administration intends to continue the fight against the international terrorist organization IS. He also added that the US plans to continue its "operation against IS, including securing detention centers where IS militants are held as prisoners."

On Dec. 7, Biden told the U.S. Congress that two strikes on targets inside Syria in 2024 were ordered by him. Biden explained that he ordered the strikes because of his "responsibility to protect United States citizens at home and abroad, and to promote U.S. national security and foreign policy interests."
