US President-elect Donald Trump has said that he will end the conflict in Ukraine"if he can". He said this in an interview with NBC News on December 8.

"Well, I'm trying. I'm trying to end it if I can," he said.

Trump also said that Ukraine "probably" should expect a decrease in military and financial aid from the U.S. authorities. He also noted that the U.S. would only maintain its position in NATO "if other members of the alliance pay their bills."

Earlier in the day, Trump said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky (term expired May 20) would like to "make a deal" with Russia. According to him, it is necessary to immediately cease fire and start negotiations, otherwise the Ukrainian conflict may worsen.

On December 5, it was reported that the US Congress rejected Biden's request for funding for Ukraine. Before that, Biden asked Congress to allocate $24 billion to Ukraine to strengthen its military capabilities and replenish America's dwindling reserves.

Back in November, Trump promised to "work very hard" to end the conflict in Ukraine. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Moscow will wait for proposals to this effect and is ready to consider them.

The special operation to protect Donbass, the start of which was announced by the Russian president on February 24, 2022, is ongoing. The decision was taken against the background of the worsening situation in the region.
