Earlier in the day it became known that former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is in Moscow with his family. As reported in the Russian Foreign Ministry, he resigned as head of state.

Also on December 8, the AFP news agency reported on the fire in the presidential palace of Bashar al-Assad in Damascus. And the National Coalition of Revolutionary and Opposition Forces of Syria said it was working to form a "transitional governing body."

On November 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the opposition's activation part of the US plan amid Israel's defeat in Lebanon. The White House denied its involvement in the events.

On November 28, armed formations attacked the Syrian government-controlled territory in Aleppo and Idlib provinces.
