An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 was recorded in the Northern Kurils. This was reported on December 8 by the head of the seismological station "Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk" Elena Semenova.

"The earthquake with magnitude 6.1 occurred on December 8 at 21:24 (13:24 Moscow time)," - transmits the words of the specialist "RIA Novosti".

It is specified that the origin of the earthquake was located in the Sea of Okhotsk at a depth of 291 km, 86 km northwest of the Kuril island of Matua.

The earthquake was felt by residents of the town of Severo-Kurilsk, Semenova noted with reference to data from the local hydrometeopost.

Earlier in the day, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.8 was recorded in Kamchatka. The depth reached 23 km, the epicenter is located 113 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.
