Media reported IDF control over Mount Hermon in Syria


The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) took control of Mount Hermon. This was reported by Al Arabiya TV channel on December 8.
The control of the position was realized after the retreat of the Syrian army.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier in the day ordered the Israeli military to take up positions in the buffer zone on the border with Syria to ensure the safety of all Israeli citizens living in the Golan Heights.
Earlier in the day, the IDF said it was deploying its forces in the buffer zone and "a number of other places" near the border with Syria for defense purposes.
On the same day, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had decided to step down as head of state and leave the country as a result of negotiations with the opposition. The Foreign Ministry called on the parties involved in the situation in Syria to resolve issues peacefully and not to use violence. In addition, the agency reported on maintaining contact with all groups of the Syrian opposition.
November 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the activation of armed groups as part of the U.S. plan against the backdrop of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. At the same time, the White House denied its involvement in the events.
