It is still difficult to make predictions about the situation in Syria, as there are several possible scenarios. Andrei Ontikov, a political scientist, orientalist, author of the Telegram channel "Eastern Gate", told Izvestia on December 8.

"The first is Syria's plunge into chaos along the lines of Libya. This scenario is pushed by the logic of what has been happening periodically in Idlib. Clashes and hostilities broke out between various terrorist, opposition groups. And then Syria will be lost for years," the analyst noted.

He pointed to the possibility of keeping opposition formations from such a scenario by Turkey, the US and Israel.

"In Libya, too, there is a mass of external players, and yet since 2011 the situation has remained permanently tense and turbulent. Including in Tripoli itself, hostilities periodically erupt," the expert explained.

The second scenario, according to the political scientist, does not exclude the collapse of Syria, or the formal unity of the country will be divided into zones of influence, the expert said.

"Most likely, the Israelis will expand the zone of their occupation under the pretext of creating some kind of sanitary zone near the occupied Golan Heights," Ontikov said.

According to the analyst, a combination of the two scenarios is also possible.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad decided to leave the post of the head of state and leave the country as a result of negotiations with the opposition.

It was also reported that the Syrian formations took control of the prison "Seidnaya" in the suburbs of Damascus. They released all the prisoners. Opposition forces also stormed the Iranian embassy in Damascus.

SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that most of the Syrian government ministers remain in Damascus. He also emphasized that he is ready to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people and noted that a new stage has begun in Syria's history.

On November 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the activation of the opposition part of the US plan against the backdrop of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. At the same time, the White House denied its involvement in the events.

A day earlier, the Syrian ministry reported that armed formations launched a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the Syrian army began to repel it, causing serious damage to the equipment and manpower of militants.
