Cases of fraud with the creation of fake doppelganger accounts are growing in Telegram. This was reported by the Garda Group of Companies (GC) on Sunday, December 8.

"Such profiles may outwardly look like the accounts of colleagues, friends or relatives, but are actually created to deceive and steal data," a company representative told RIA Novosti.

Viktor Ievlev, head of the information security department, advises checking the user's name in your contact list to avoid falling for scammers. According to him, if the dialog has already started, you can clarify the personal information that the real owner of the account may have.

"Make sure there are no suspicious devices. If there are, end their sessions, change the password and enable two-factor authentication. For more security, tie your email to your account," Ievlev added.

Earlier, on December 6, the security team of the combined company Wildberries & Russ recorded a significant increase in the popularity of a new fraud scheme - fake drawings of gift certificates in Telegram. Under the pretext of receiving certificates for a certain amount of money from marketplaces, attackers in messenger offer to follow a link and collect their "winnings".

Before that, on November 17, Evgeny Pankov, project manager of the .RU/.RF domain coordination center, told Izvestia that there is a steady increase in phishing attacks conducted via messengers, especially Telegram. According to him, 2,374 domains imitating Telegram were blocked in Runet in the first 10 months of this year, which is 2.2 times higher than the same period last year.
