Israel has declared several areas in the Golan Heights a closed zone


The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has declared two agricultural areas in the Golan Heights a closed military zone. The announcement was made by the army's press office in Telegram on December 8.
"In accordance with the assessment of the situation, the agricultural areas of Merom-Golan-Ein Zivan and Bukata-Hirbet-Ein Hura will be declared a closed military zone as of today (Sunday)," the statement said.
Farmers will be able to visit some areas within the zone for some time depending on the situation and under IDF supervision. However, uncoordinated crossing of these areas is strictly prohibited, the agency emphasized.
Also, schools in four communities in the northern Golan Heights will switch to a remote working format. Kindergartens will continue their activities as usual.
Earlier in the day, the IDF deployed its forces in the buffer zone and "a number of other places" near the border with Syria for defense purposes. At the same time, the Israeli army emphasized that it "does not interfere in internal developments in Syria."
