IDF says deployment of forces near Syrian border

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) deployed its forces in the buffer zone and "a number of other places" near the border with Syria for defense purposes. The army press office said in its Telegram channel on December 8.

"In accordance with the assessment of the situation following recent events in Syria, including the entry of armed personnel into the buffer zone, the IDF deployed forces in the buffer zone and in a number of other places necessary for its defense, in order to ensure the safety of the communities in the Golan Heights and the citizens of Israel," the statement said.

At the same time, the Israeli army emphasized that "does not interfere in internal developments in Syria."

Earlier in the day it was reported that in Syria the armed opposition announced the "fall" of the government of President Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian leader himself, according to media reports, left Damascus. At the same time, SAR Prime Minister Mohammed Ghazi al-Jalali said that he was ready to cooperate with any leadership chosen by the people. He also noted that a new stage has begun in the history of Syria.

On November 29, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi called the activation of terrorists part of the US plan against the background of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. At the same time, the White House denied its involvement in the events.

In turn, Britain, the United States, France and Germany called on all parties in Syria to de-escalate, and Russian Ambassador to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia strongly condemns the terrorists' outburst. In addition, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at the Doha Forum on December 7 that it was unacceptable to allow terrorists to seize land in Syria.
