The South Korean Prosecutor's Office has labeled the country's President Yun Seok-yol as a suspect in the case of rebellion against the state system. This was reported by Yonhap agency on Sunday, December 8.

It is specified that earlier the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Korea began an investigation on the statement of opposition deputies about treason of the Korean president.

"Many complaints have been filed and an investigation is underway in accordance with the procedure," Park Se-hyun, head of the martial law special investigation team, expressed.

He added that prosecutors are investigating charges against Yoon Seok-yeol for abuse of power and sedition.

Earlier on Dec. 7, Han Dong-hoon, chairman of South Korea's ruling Civic Force party, announced Korean President Yun Seok-yol 's promise to resign early. Han Dong-hoon apologized to the country's citizens for the events taking place "from the moment martial law was declared until today."

Earlier in the day, it was reported that South Korea's national assembly (parliament) failed to garner the required number of votes to impeach President Yun Seok-yeol. Before that, about 149,000 protesters gathered outside the National Assembly building in Seoul's Yoido district demanding a decision to impeach the president.

Also on Saturday, Yoon Seok-yeol apologized to fellow citizens during a public address because of the imposition of martial law in the country. The South Korean leader promised not to re-impose it.

Yun Seok-yol declared martial law in the country on December 3. The reason for such a step he called the threat of paralysis of power, arising from attempts to conduct impeachment proceedings. Commander of the emergency regime, Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces Park Ahn-soo noted that until martial law is lifted in the republic, the activities of parliament, political parties and associations are prohibited. Military equipment was brought to the streets of Seoul.

The opposition party of the republic, in turn, demanded the resignation of the head of state and said it intended to charge Yoon Seok-yeol with treason. At the same time, all heads and senior secretaries of the presidential administration of South Korea resigned. In addition, the trade unions of the republic announced a general strike.
