The US-made long-range ATACMS missiles transferred to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and the authorization to strike deep into the Russian Federation will not become a panacea for Kiev. This was stated by the US President's National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on December 7 during a speech at a forum on national defense in the state of California, which was broadcasted on the YouTube channel of the Ronald Reagan Institute.

He said the U.S. missiles handed over to Ukraine are "another additional capability."

"I would just say to anyone who thinks this is a panacea for this conflict - he doesn't understand what's going on. It's not a panacea, it's another additional capability," he said.

Sullivan also added that the problem with the U.S. transferring missiles was the size of its own arsenal. However, when the United States was able to accumulate enough weapons, it transferred them to Kiev.

Earlier, on November 27, retired U.S. Army Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson told Izvestia that U.S. ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles are like "children's toys" compared to the capabilities of Russia's Oreshnik ballistic missile. If necessary, he said, the Russian army could completely destroy NATO infrastructure in Europe.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Nov. 21 that Ukraine had used Western long-range weapons against the Russian state, causing the regional conflict to acquire elements of a global conflict. He said that in response, Russia responded with a live test of one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems, the Oreshnik ballistic missile.

Western countries have stepped up military and financial support for Ukraine amid Russia's special operation to defend Donbass, which began on February 24, 2022. The decision to conduct it was taken by the Russian president because of the aggravation of the situation in the region due to the increased shelling by Ukrainian troops.
