EU calls for political settlement in Syria

The European Union (EU) has again called for a political settlement of the conflict in Syria. This was reported in the press service of the association on December 7.
"We once again call for a political solution in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. In the context of the escalation of hostilities between armed groups across the country, we all stand for the protection of civilians and ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers," reads the text of the statement.
The statement also said that the EU is "closely monitoring" the situation in Syria.
Earlier in the day, participants of the meeting on Syria in Doha confirmed that all sides should seek a political solution to the crisis. The negotiators drew attention to the fact that the continuation of the Syrian crisis is a dangerous development for peace in Syria, as well as for regional and international security.
At the same time, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at the Doha Forum that it is unacceptable to allow terrorists to seize land in Syria. The head of the diplomatic ministry added that Russia is absolutely convinced that it is unacceptable to use terrorists to achieve geopolitical goals, as is being done now with the organization of an offensive from the Idlib de-escalation zone.
On December 5, it was reported that the Russian and Syrian Air Forces destroyed at least 300 terrorists in the SAR within a day. The operation was carried out in the provinces of Idlib, Hama and Aleppo.
On November 28, the Syrian Defense Ministry reported that terrorist groups made a major attack in Aleppo and Idlib, and the country's army began to repel it, causing serious damage to equipment and manpower of militants. The next day it became known that hundreds of terrorists in Aleppo and Idlib provinces were eliminated.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi on November 30 called the activation of terrorists in Syria part of the US plan against the background of Israel's defeat in Lebanon. In turn, the White House denied its involvement in what is happening. In addition, Britain, the United States, France and Germany called on all parties in Syria to de-escalate.
