Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a press conference in Doha on December 7 that Western experts were studying what military facilities of NATO countries would be within the kill radius of the "Oreshnik" system if it was deployed in Belarus.

One of the journalists cited the data of experts who calculated that if Oreshnik is placed in Belarus, the entire territory of Europe and NATO military bases in the Middle East will be within striking range.

"Is it our military experts think so or Western experts? Ours. Well, I'm sure the Western ones think so too," Lavrov commented.

On the same day, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Belarusian Armed Forces Sergei Lagodyuk said that the decision to deploy the Russian Oreshnik complex in Belarus was made against the backdrop of the US and German stance on the deployment of medium-range missiles in Europe.

A day earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to put Russian complexes for the launch of "Oreshnik" on the territory of the country . Putin, in turn, allowed the deployment of the corresponding complex on the territory of the republic in the second half of 2025.

Putin announced on Nov. 21 the test in combat conditions of the Oreshnik ballistic missile, one of Russia's newest medium-range missile systems. He emphasized that the move was in response to the escalation by Western countries in Ukraine. In the following days, the head of state specified that Russia would continue these tests and that the decision on the serial production of the missiles had already been made.
