More than a thousand citizens of the European Union (EU) supported a lawsuit against the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen because of possible violations with vaccines against COVID-19 during the pandemic. This was reported on December 7 by the online publication Political Lore with reference to Belgian activist Frederic Baldan.

"We have more than a thousand plaintiffs," Baldan said at a meeting with the media.

He said there is evidence that vaccines authorized for use in the European Union have not been sufficiently tested for efficacy. Meanwhile, restrictive measures were introduced that involved mandatory vaccination and severe restrictions for those who refused, the activist said.

"This shows that the European Commission violated the rights of citizens from the very beginning," Baldan emphasized.

As specified "Gazeta.Ru", von der Leyen is accused of concluding a contract for the purchase of a vaccine against COVID-19, the tests of which were not completed at the time. The decision was made by her without prior agreement with the EU countries. As a result, €35.8 billion was spent from the organization's budget.

It became known on April 1 that Belgian investigators opened a criminal case against the chairman of the EC. Then it was specified that the investigation began in 2023 after the filing of an application by a representative of a local consulting firm Frederic Baldan. He accused von der Leyen of corruption after she negotiated in private correspondence with the CEO of Pfizer on the purchase of vaccines for the entire European Union.

European Parliamentarian Gunnar Beck told Izvestia on April 27 that von der Leyen will probably get away with the case. According to him, the head of the EC maintains relations with influential people and the criminal prosecution is being conducted only for the sake of appearances to "somehow" satisfy the disgruntled public.

In May, the chairman of the Patriots party Florian Filippo, who filed the lawsuit, said that the court in Belgian Liège refused to transfer the corruption case against the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen to the jurisdiction of the EU Prosecutor General's Office.
